Rarely do I find an object that encompasses 100% of what I'm looking for. Even less often do I find one that has it and is in a workable price range for Vintage Deluxe. So, what to do? Well, if it has most of what I need then I try and create the remaining 20 to 30% of whatever its missing..
Generally you know when you walk in a store if you'll be purchasing an item. For me, I know within seconds. Yesterday, at a local charity shop, I saw a sofa with amazing lines, great vintage feel, original fabric, in mint condition, and it just so happened to be priced right. I knew id be taking this bad boy home even before I read the price. The bad part? Well, the skirt. It's dated like a calendar.

Do you see it? I love the couch but....
Here's a secret you may not know.. Most of the skirts from these mid century sofas were add ons the furniture stores would sell you. They are nothing more than stapled on and placed over the finished sofas.
It's removable from this sofa and most all the upholstered chairs you'll find on the market today. Bonus, most of these items have mid century legs underneath that are waiting to be uncovered. But what can you do once the skirts gone?
Whats the magic formula?
FRINGE. Lots of Fringe. Imagine this sofa with any of the following looks.

How fun would any of these looks be on this vintage sofa? It's fun and easy, plus it saves this sofa from being discarded and moves it into the next century. Personally, Im into the contrasting white fringe. Something that pops and is clean and fresh.
I also have a chocolate brown deco chair that needs this treatment. Cant wait to get to it and show you the end results.
Stay tuned!
